Mrugtrushna, (Mirage), a metaphorical film revolves around the conflicts and desires of 13-year-old Tejas and three of his friends Tara, Gagan and Sameer who stay in a small village on the banks of the river Narmada. This picturesque village is still shadowed by superstition, discrimination and black magic.
Tejas and his mother have been living alone ever since his father went to the other side of the river for work and never returned. Tara, the apple of her father’s eye is threatened of losing her importance and having to share the love and attention of her parents with her new-born sister. Gagan is extremely distressed by the way his developmentally disabled uncle is ill-treated by his own parents and the other villagers. Sameer who is extremely close to his elder sister is suffering from separation anxiety as she is engaged to be married and is to move out of the village.
Hopeful of a solution to all their problems, they create an imaginary world which is perfect. A beautiful colourful land full of butterflies. Where sadness, pain, anger, discrimination and hatred do not exist. This world of theirs is on the other side of the river. However, even the thought of crossing the river is strictly forbidden by their elders.
During one of their escapades, they meet a strange, mysterious and elusive boatman, who becomes their ‘dost’ (friend). They request him to take them to the other side of the river. He agrees to do so, but on one condition. Being an untouchable, he has never been allowed into a temple of worship. He has always wanted to ‘see’ God at least once.
Will the kids be able to make his wish come true? Will the ‘dost’ make the kids wish come true? Discover it in this mesmerizing narrative.
